Cedar Rapids Residents Fill Sandbags Ahead of Expected Flooding

Cedar Rapids residents filled sandbags on Saturday, September 24, as they prepared for the Cedar River to reach historic flooding levels. Areas of downtown Cedar Falls were closed to vehicles on Friday and pedestrians on Saturday, while police also urged businesses in the area to close. The Cedar River was expected to crest at 12 feet above flood stage.
