Crowds Rally in Baltimore for Day of Prayer

Demonstrators gathered for a day of prayer in front of Baltimore City Hall on Sunday, May 3, the same day a citywide curfew was lifted. This video shows people marching to City Hall chanting “One Baltimore.”

City hall has become a focal point for protests following the death of Freddie Gray, a local man who suffered a fatal spinal cord injury while in police custody. Six officers were charged on May 1 in connection with Gray’s death.

Governor Larry Hogan said that the Maryland National Guard would draw down its presence in Baltimore on Sunday, almost one week after peaceful protests turned to riots in the city and the guard was activated.

Demonstrators clashed with police near Mondawmin mall on April 27, with violence spilling into the North-Penn neighborhood where vehicles and buildings, including a CVS, were set on fire and businesses were looted.
