Egypt Sends Tanks to Saudi Arabia for 'Operation Northern Thunder'

Egyptian Chief of Staff Mahmoud Hegazy on February 11 ordered the transport of Egyptian military vehicles to Saudi Arabia for a forthcoming military drill code-named Operation Northern Thunder. This video shows tanks and armored personnel carriers being loaded on ships at Safaga Marina in the port of Suez, bound for Saudi Arabia to join 20 other Arab military forces over the coming week.

Many of the scenarios will be based on real-life experiences of the Arab coalition in Yemen, site of an almost year-long war with Iranian-backed Houthi militants. Other countries participating in the exercise include United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Oman and Qatar.

The drills have three objectives, the defense ministry said: To enhance fighting abilities, increase coordination between armies, and facilitate exchange of information and experience. Credit: Youtube/Egyptian Ministry of Defense
