Explosion at 'Grow House' Kills FDNY Battalion Chief

A New York City battalion chief was killed by falling debris after a house exploded in the Bronx on Tuesday, September 27. The explosion leveled a two-story private home and injured at least six other people, according to a local report. City officials identified the battalion chief as Michael Fahy, a 17-year veteran.

An hour before the explosion, firefighters assembled at the scene for a report of a gas smell when they found a drug lab, according to the report. Police were called to check the lab, but the building exploded before officers could investigate. Police Commissioner James O’Neill identified the drug lab as a “grow house” during a press conference and also said police had been investigating the operation. Credit: Instagram/Pugacheva Photography
