Fans Pack Chapeco Stadium for Plane Crash Wake

People clapped, cheered and cried as names of the victims of a Colombian plane crash were read during a wake in Chapeco’s Arena Conda on Saturday, December 3. Vigil-goers wore green in honour of the fallen members of football team Chapecoense.

Brazilian Air Force aircraft transported 50 coffins to the southern city on Saturday morning, while families, friends and thousands of fans gathered for the arrival of the bodies of their heroes despite a downpour. President Michel Temer flew from Brasilia to Chapeco to receive the caskets, according to Globo.

A chartered flight operated by LaMia crashed near Medellin on Monday evening, killing 71 passengers and crew. Only six people, including three Chapecoense members, survived.
