Fists Fly After NYPD-FDNY Charity Football Game

A charity football game between the New York Police Department and the Fire Department of New York ended with fists flying on Sunday, May 22, after a verbal dispute. It remains unclear what specifically started the fight after the Fun City Bowl, which aimed to raise money for charities supporting families from both departments.

There were two fights caught on camera. A member of the FDNY’s football team could be walking away from the first fight with blood dripping from the side of his head. Soon after, a second fight broke out with pushing and shoving moving to the center of the field.

After the incident, both sides shook hands as the crowd cheered. “Football is a competitive sport, whether it is the NFL Super Bowl or the annual NYPD-FDNY challenge. It is part of the spirit of the sport, but it all ends on the field,” the NYPD said in a statement, according to local reports. Credit: Angel Zayas
