Flooding Persists in South Carolina

As floodwater receded in some parts of South Carolina, other areas continued to struggle with high waterlevels on Friday, October 9. This video shows flooding along the Edisto River.

Authorities continue to assess damage and the Federal Emergency Management Agency expanded the area that is eligible for individual aide. Portions of nearly 260 roads in at least 26 counties remained closed, according to local media.

Historic rainfall triggered widespread flooding across South Carolina last weekend. Some areas saw up to two feet of rain fall before the storm cleared. More than 3,000 National Guard members are responding to the flood to assist with distributing food and water and assessing damage. At least 19 people have died as a result of the flooding.
