Heavy Smoke From Volcano Eruption Clouds Sky Over Guatemala

The Volcán de Fuego, in Guatemala, has been erupting for more than 24 hours, according to local news reports. The volcano is one of the most active in the country and started a strong eruption on Thursday, July 28, at 5:45 am. This video shows the ash column from the town of San Miguel Dueñas on the morning of Friday, July 29.

The volcano’s ash column reached 5,500 meters above sea level, dispersing over an area of 35 kilometers, according to public officials. The city of San Pedro Yepocapa is currently under orange alert due to the volcano’s heavy activity.
