High Volume of Water Discharged From Taiwan Dam During Typhoon Megi
A high volume of water was discharged from the Shihmen Dam in Taoyuan on Tuesday, September 27. Taiwan’s Water Resources Agency also opened a tunnel on September 28 to eliminate the sand content at the dam. The decision to release water from the dam was made after Typhoon Megi hit the island with heavy rain and strong winds, prompting the water levels of the dam to rise at least 700 mm.
The government had discharged at least 270,000,000 tonnes of water and more than 24 million cubic feet of sand on September 29.
