Hong Kong Leader Condemns Mong Kok 'Riot'

Hong Kong Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying (CY) condemned the “riot” in Mong Kok early on Tuesday, February 8. Leung said the public “can see for themselves from TV news reports the seriousness of the situation.”

Hong Kong police fired at least two shots and deployed pepper spray and batons during a standoff in Mong Kok late on Monday. Clashes erupted after Food and Environmental Hygiene Department officials cracked down on illegal street food hawkers at a Chinese New Year market in the busy district.
