Illinois Hunt Continues for Three Suspects Who Killed 30-Year Police Veteran

Authorities continued to hunt for three suspects who fatally shot a police officer in Fox Lake, Illinois, on September 1. The officer was identified as Charles “Joe” Gliniewicz, a 30-year veteran with the force, according to local media.

Locals were told to stay indoors during the manhunt, that included K-9 units and helicopters. No description of the suspects was released except that they were two white men and one black man, according to the NBC Chicago report.

At just before 8 am, Gliniewicz radioed in that he was pursuing three suspicious men before being led on a foot chase. He then called for back-up, and officers found him with a gunshot wound.

Gliniewicz was due to retire last month, but the police chief had asked him to stay on another month to help out. Credit: Instagram/Sam Joseph
