Increase in Migrants Sleeping Rough in Paris After Calais Closure

After the closure of the Calais Jungle camp, French media reported a large increase in the number of migrants sleeping in tents around Place de la Bataille-de-Stalingrad between Paris’s 10th and 19th arrondissements.

BFMTV quoted Heloise Mary of France’s Bureau d’Accueil et d’Accompagnement des Migrants as saying the numbers in north Paris had increased from 2,000 to 3,000, just months after the area was cleared of migrants sleeping rough.

A report by Le Figaro focused on the impact on the area, saying locals and business owners were “à bout de nerfs,” or at their wits’ end. Credit: Thomas Schlijper
