Istanbul Police Forcefully Remove May Day Protester From Taksim Square

Istanbul’s riot police cracked down on protesters headed for Taksim square on Labor (or May) Day, with reports of one man killed when he was run over by a water cannon vehicle. Security around the symbolic square was heightened and it remained off-limits to protesters on May 1. Thousands came out in the bazaar area of Istanbul’s Bakırköy district instead to mark the day.
