Mayor De Blasio Briefs Press on NYC Building Collapse

Multiple people were injured when a building exploded and collapsed in the East Village of New York City on March 26. The fire affected four buildings on 2nd Avenue, according to Mayor Bill de Blasio during a press conference at the scene. Twelve people were injured and three were in critical condition, he said. There were no reports of additional missing people.

Initial indications were that the cause was gas related and happened because of plumbing work, the mayor said. There were seven alarms for the fire and about 250 firefighters responded to the scene. Firefighters were expected to be on scene through the night. Credit: YouTube/NYC Mayor’s Office
