Mexican President Nieto Arrives at Buckingham Palace

The President of Mexico Enrique Peña Nieto and his wife, Angélica Rivera, met Queen Elizabeth II, her husband the Duke of Edinburgh, and UK Prime Minister David Cameron on March 3, officially beginning a three-day state visit to the United Kingdom. Earlier that day, Nieto and his wife met the Prince of Wales, and the Duchess of Cornwall.

According to BBC News, Cameron said he would take the opportunity to raise the issue of human rights in Mexico, a day after Amnesty International and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg jointly uged the PM to do so. The Mexican president has faced increasing scrutiny as protests continue over the disappearance of 43 students after a demonstration in the Guerrero State town of Iguala on September 26, 2014. A recent crackdown on a teachers’ protest in Acapulco raised accusations of police brutality and sexual abuse. Credit: YouTube/The British Monarchy
