Monsoon Rains Swamp Parts of Myanmar, Causing Serious Flooding, Landslides

Floods and landslides in Myanmar resulting from heavy monsoon rains have killed as many as 46 people and swamped more than 1 million acres of farmland, according to government sources. Many of the worst-affected areas are among Myanmar’s poorest states, UNICEF said. This footage shows the Chindwin River, in the central western part of the country, near Bagan, southwest of Mandalay.

More than 200,000 people across the country are in need of lifesaving assistance, the UN said, with 12 out of Myanmar’s 14 states and regions affected. Credit: Instagram/monimoleskine
