Mourners Pay Respects on Day of Nemtsov's Funeral

The funeral of prominent Russian opposition leader Boris Nemtsov was due to be held on the afternoon of March 3, four days after he was shot dead on a bridge near the Kremlin.

Hundreds of mourners turned out beforehand, filing by his coffin and laying flowers at the Sakharov Center in Moscow. The BBC reported that Russian authorities had barred several EU politicians from attending the funeral.

Alexei Navalny, a prominent activist and critic of Vladimir Putin, was denied permission to leave jail, where he is serving a 15-day sentence, the BBC said. Credit: Svoboda Radio
