Obama Holds Roundtable With Alaska Native Tribal Leaders in Anchorage

US President Barack Obama held roundtable talks with Alaska native tribal leaders in Anchorage on August 31, after arriving in the state for a three-day trip ahead of the Conference on Global Leadership in the Arctic: Cooperation, Innovation, Engagement and Resilience (GLACIER). Obama said that the meeting gave him an “opportunity to interact and listen to some Alaska Native tribal leaders.”

“A number of them I’ve met with before during the Tribal Summits that we’ve had in Washington, but this gave me a chance to focus more intensely on specifically what’s happening in Alaska,” said the president.

They don’t just represent a large portion of Alaska’s population; these are communities that have been around for 10,000 years or so," he said. Credit: YouTube/White House
