Obama Urges Congress to Pass Immigration Reform on Cinco De Mayo

US President Obama reaffirmed his commitment to immigration reform on Tuesday, May 5, in a speech for Cinco de Mayo, an important Mexican holiday.

“The story of American is a dynamic story so we are not just going stop now suddenly now suddenly and forget everything that helped to build this country. And part of what built it was the incredible power of our immigrant communities. Our prosperity, our security demands comprehensive immigration reform”, Obama said.

Obama urged Congress to “step up” and pass the reform.

Obama delivered the speech at the White House Cinco de Mayo Reception in the East Room of the White House. The day of commemoration marks the Mexican army’s victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, in what was “One of the great David versus Goliath stories in history”, according to Obama.
