Rescue Operation for Trapped Mine Workers Reaches Ninth Day

A rescue operation to free three trapped employees from a mine outside Barberton, South Africa, reached its ninth day on February 13. According to several reports, a new collapse in part of the mine overnight on February 12 may have set the rescue back.

The three employees, Pretty Nkambule, Yvonne Mnisi and Solomon Nyerende, became trapped at the Lily Mine on February 5 after a metal container they were reportedly inside fell dozens of meters underground.
