South Carolina Airmen Volunteer in Neighborhood Damaged by Flooding

Airmen from the 169th Fighter Wing in the South Carolina Air National Guard volunteered to help a neighborhood in Columbia on October 8 after the floods destroyed homes.

As many as 3,000 South Carolina guardsmen are assisting in the aftermath of widespread flooding in the state, and hundreds more from other states also will be helping. In addition to removing debris from damaged neighborhoods, the guardsmen are assessing damage, assisting with repairs and distributing food and water.

As much as two feet of rain fell in South Carolina last weekend, triggering widespread flooding. While some water has receded, flooding still persists as rivers overflow their banks.
