Suspect in Front Loader Leads Anchorage Police on Chase

A suspect in a liquor store burglary driving a front-end loader led Anchorage police on a chase on Thursday, May 26. Police said the front-end loader had been stolen from a construction site and used to crash through the front of a store.

Joseph Martin, 38, was charged with criminal mischief 4, failure to stop at the direction of an officer, criminal mischief 3, theft 4, criminal trespassing, theft 1, burglary 2, felony DUI, and felony refusal to submit.

Police said in a press release someone flagged down an officer at about 3:20am who told the officer someone drove the front loader into a liquor store, ripping off most of its front entrance. The witness told police he saw the driver go into the store and take several alcohol bottles and flee the scene in the front loader.

The driver led police on chase as they attempted to pull him over multiple times. Officers had to block the exit of a RV park in order to stop the driver. Credit: YouTube/Anchorage Police Department
