Thousands of Migrants Rescued Off Libyan Coast

About 6,500 people were rescued in Mediterranean waters off the Libyan coast on Monday, August 29, the Italian Navy reported. The rescue operations were carried out in coordination with the EU’s EUNAVFOR Med, Frontex, Proactiva Open Arms and Doctors Without Borders. According to the AP, the majority of migrants were rescued from boats about 13 miles off the coast of Sabratha, Libya.
