Turkish NGO Builds Camp at Syrian Border as Thousands Flee Aleppo

A prominent Turkish aid organization has erected tents for some 1,000 refugees near the Syrian border town of Azaz as a new wave of refugees fleeing the Syrian government offensive around Aleppo was reported to have arrived at the Turkish border. The footage here was published on February 6, and shows tents being constructed next to the Bab al-Salam border crossing.

According to the UN on Friday, February 5, at least 15,000 people had fled north of Aleppo and tens of thousands had gathered at the border crossing, Bab al-Salam, since the start of the week as forces loyal to Bashar al-Assad, backed by Russian air cover, stepped up their offensive against rebels around Aleppo.

According to a statement by the Turkish Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) on Friday, the NGO set up 200 tents in 24 hours. Credit: YouTube/SMART News Agency
