UNHCR Representative Says Refugees Should Be Told Where They Are Going

Hungarian police reopened Budapest’s Keleti train station on September 3 following two days of migrants protesting against the closure, which prevented their travel to Western Europe. Many of the migrants are seeking refuge from persecution or war in their home countries. Despite the reopening, trains would not be travelling to locations in Western Europe, Hungary’s national rail provider said in a statement.

In this video, uploaded on September 4, Montserrat Feixas Vihe, a UNHCR representative in Hungary, said, “If people have been misled in terms of where the trains are going that would be a terrible thing. Information has been one of the main problems so far and it has to be addressed. They need to know, they deserve to know what is in store for them where they are being sent and to make the right decision.” Credit: YouTube/United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
