US Condemns 'Brutal Murder' of Atheist Blogger

United States State Department Spokesperson Jen Psaki said on February 27 that the US condemned, in the strongest terms, the “brutal murder” of Avijit Roy, a Bangladeshi-American atheist blogger who was killed in Dhaka after attending a book fair. Local Islamist group Ansar Bangla-7 claimed responsibility for the attack via Twitter. The group’s Twitter account was later suspended.

“This was not just an attack against a person, but a cowardly assault on the universal principles enshrined in Bangladesh’s constitution and the country’s proud tradition of free, intellectual and religious discourse,” Jen Psaki said. Credit: Facebook/US Department of State
