Workers Rescue Sea Lion From California Oil Spill

California Fish and Wildlife workers rescued a juvenile sea lion from the oil slick in Santa Barbara County on May 21. This video shows the sea lion in a crate before it was transported to SeaWorld for rehabilitation. Workers also have rescued five pelicans, which also were taken to a rehabilitation facility.

Crews kicked into high gear on May 21 to clean up the spill near Refugio State Beach, which is north of Santa Barbara, according to local media. More than 100,000 gallons of oil spilled from a broken pipe earlier this week, 21,000 of them reaching the water. The spill covers nine square miles. There were 300 workers and 18 boats involved in the cleanup. Credit: Facebook/ Cal Spill Watch – Office of Spill Prevention and Response
