Vigil Held in Brisbane for Woman Killed While Running in Ireland

A vigil was held in Brisbane, Queensland, on Thursday, January 13, for a young woman who was killed in Ireland earlier that week while she went for a run.

Local media reported that Ashling Murphy, a 23-year-old school teacher, was exercising along a popular canal-side route in Tullamore, County Offaly, on Wednesday afternoon when she was attacked and killed.

The attack happened at around 4 pm, according to police.

The vigil in Brisbane was organised by the Irish Australian Support Association Queensland, which tweeted, “Although the Irish community in Brisbane can’t be at home, tonight we were able to morn [sic] and acknowledge Ashling’s life.”
