Vinnie Jones is marking an important milestone this week as he reaches seven years of sobriety from alcohol.

The former footballer has taken to his social media to encourage others to give up "the worst drug on this planet" as he noted how far he'd come.

He posted a throwback photo of himself with his late wife Tanya, writing: "Tomorrow is my 7 year alcohol DRY anniversary, the worst drug on this planet will get found out one day!!!

"If I can quit, believe me ; you can ,and your life will be a million percent better! I guarantee it."

"Join me!" Jones, 55, added. "Get yourself dry and get your life and your families life back on track, be a leader not a follower, dare to be different!"

He put a stop to his drinking after one heavy night while filming for a programme in Russia in 2013 saw him pictured kissing another woman, putting his marriage at risk.

The Snatch star managed to keep his relationship together and was devoted to wife Tanya up until her death from cancer last year at the age of 53.

He's since said he will never love again following on from her tragic passing as she was the "light of his life".

In an interview with BBC Inside Out, Jones said: “Tans had a transplant after her heart collapsed giving birth and we lived with that for ever more. It was a fantastic gift that we were given.
