Who's never longed to go through the looking glass? This dream will soon become reality thanks to a new V&A exhibition called "Alice: Curiouser and Curiouser," opening on March 27 in London. In the meantime, the British institution has partnered with HTC VIVE Arts to offer Lewis Carroll fans an innovative virtual event on October 22.
This special event, created in partnership with HTC VIVE Arts and PRELOADED studio, will take place over 45 minutes in an environment inspired by the V&A's physical museum space and the fantastical landscapes imagined by Lewis Carroll, guided by the "Alice: Curiouser and Curiouser" curator, Kate Bailey.
"Alice's impossible journey through a fantastical universe becomes possible in this exciting new creative platform. From rabbit holes to mirrors, flamingoes to hedgehogs, wonderland is the perfect world for VR and the V&A is delighted to be pioneering our first ever VR event," said Kate Bailey in a press release.
But for once, the public won't have to sport virtual reality headsets to discover this "Alice: Curiouser and Curiouser" sneak peek. Global audiences will be able to follow the event live on October 22 on the ENGAGE platform, or on the V&A Museum YouTube channel.
While British museums are struggling due to the lack of foreign visitors, the V&A Museum is trying to woo international crowds via new technological offers, accessible worldwide.
The cultural institution announced that another virtual experience, "Curious Alice," will be launched on October 22. Fans of the story and its characters will go on a journey to discover an enchanted universe inspired by illustrations from Icelandic artist Kristjana S. Williams about the classic novel.
Unlike the free preview event related to the "Alice: Curiouser and Curiouser" exhibition, "Curious Alice" will be downloadable from Viveport for £3.99.
