Visitors at Brighton's i360 faced having to use a temporary 'toilet tent' after attraction became stuck

Visitors at Brighton's i360 faced having to use a temporary "toilet tent" after the attraction became stuck on Friday afternoon.

The world's first vertical cable car is thought to have been stuck around halfway up its tower for around an hour before returning to the ground around 4.30pm.

Photographs showed a green portaloo-type structure had been put up in the pod, which promises to take passengers around 450ft off the ground.

One visitor wrote on social media: "We've gone up the i360 of Brighton. It's stuck. We've been up here like an extra half hour. They're setting up toilets in this public room."

One, describing the experience as "scary", added: "Thank you to the staff of @BA_i360 for making a scary experience into a wonderful one!"  Another said: "Luckily we didn't need to use the temporary tent toilet."

Another wrote on Twitter: "The level of professionalism that staff maintained today on the @BA_i360 during the unexpected stop was amazing. A credit to the company!"

A spokesman confirmed the pod experienced a "temporary stoppage" and said flights were suspended for the rest of the day.

A statement said: "The British Airways i360 pod experienced a temporary stoppage during a flight today.

"Passengers disembarked and flights have been suspended for the rest of the day.

"We would like to apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused."
