Ayala-supported Volkswagen Philippines has brought the refreshed version of the Santana to the country’s roads.

The German brand’s local distributor said that the new subcompact sedan offer would be the perfect drive “after careful sheltering, and weathering whatever challenges 2020 could dish out”.

In an earlier interview, Volkswagen Philippines president Felipe Estrella III claimed that the upcoming Santana’s capabilities could help boost their claim in the market. "Given the situation that customers are now looking for premium on their picks, the Santana will definitely give them their money's worth," Estrella told CARMUDI PHILIPPINES.

And he is far from wrong.

Given the right amount of amenities, it can definitely clash heads with the industry mass market giants like the Toyota Vios and Hyundai Accent, among others.

The latest iteration of the Volkswagen Santana is all about comfort. The two available variants are both in automatic transmission—180 MPI AT S and the 180 MPI AT SE—dropping the manual transmission for the base offering. This could mean less strain when driving through heavy traffic, which is very prominent these days.

This is mated to the potent 1.5 liter engine that can deliver more than 109 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque, retaining its fun numbers. Meanwhile, the powertrain is engineered with BlueMotion technology to ensure good fuel efficiency figures.

While retaining the essential figures in the entry-level S variety, customers can enjoy additional features in the top-of-the-line such as the leather and fabric seat material, a front center armrest with height adjustment, front and rear door pockets with bottle holder, front and rear reading lights, and a multifunction steering wheel with cruise control. Such amenities complement its being one of the longest wheelbases in its class.

Aside from that, the 2021 Santana can be fitted with a seven-inch infotainment that is Apple CarPlay- and Android Auto- ready as a dealer option.

Further, automatic headlights with Leaving Home and Coming Home function, front fog lamps, intermittent control wipers with rain sensor, and a sunroof are also available for the 2021 Santana 180 MPI AT SE.

Apart from the dual front airbags, ESP, ABS and ASR come standard in the 2021 Santana 180 MPI AT S, Volkswagen again threw in a dash of safety features in the SE variant including driver and front passenger side airbags and rear parking distance control.

The 2021 Volksagen Santana is being retailed with three color options such as Polar White, Reflex Silver, and Deep Black at P755,000 for the 2021 Santana 180 MPI AT S, and P898,000 for the 2021 Santana 180 MPI AT SE.

All these safety features, plus the comprehensive three-year or 100,000 km-warranty coverage (whichever comes first), yearly preventive maintenance service or every 10,000 kilometers (whichever comes first) and 24/7 Emergency Roadside Assistance, customers of the newest Volkswagen Santana can definitely get their money’s worth on this.
