Volvo's hi-tech safety features really does reduce road accidents

Volvo's City Safety System reduces the risk of rear end collisions

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) the active driver aids that make up Volvo's City Safety system reduce the rate of rear-end crashes by 41%.

The study, based on the City Safe system fitted as standard on 2010-2012 model-year Volvos on US roads, also found that the rate of injuries to occupants was reduced by 47% and that rear-end crashes involving third-party injuries dropped by 48%.

The study concluded that "City Safety appears to be highly effective at reducing rear-end crashes and associated injuries reported to police, even on roadways with speed limits higher than the system's operating range."
