After multiple setbacks amid global surges of confirmed COVID-19 cases, Disney fans will finally be able to watch the highly anticipated live-action remake of Mulan—from the safety of their own homes.

Disney announced last month that the film, which reimagines the 1998 animated classic, will drop on its own streaming platform, Disney+, on September 4. The $200 million feature will be available for viewing for a $30 premium add-on. But, starting December 4, the film will be available for Disney+ subscribers for no extra cost.

"We see this as an opportunity to bring this incredible film to a broad audience currently unable to go to movie theaters while also further enhancing the value and attractiveness of a Disney+ subscription with this great content," Disney CEO Bob Chapek said on an earnings call, per USA Today. "Given the rapid changes in consumer behavior, we believe that it's more important than ever that we continue to grow our direct relationship to our customers."

Mulan isn't the only Disney film to get the straight-to-streaming treatment. As the novel coronavirus has forced industries across the board to operate under a new normal, Disney has followed suit, rolling out features including Hamilton, Artemis Fowl, and The One and Only Ivan, on its streaming platform ahead of their original theater release dates.

Disney+ Subscription Options

The streaming platform offers multiple options for its subscribers.

  • To get access to just Disney+, you can pay $7 per month or $70 for the entire year.

  • To get access to Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+, the monthly fee is $13 per month.

  • The platform does not currently offer a free trial period for new subscribers.

Subscribe to Disney+

In addition to the subscription, users will have to pay a one-time fee of $30 to access the live-action Mulan until December 4. Thereafter, the movie is available to all subscribers.
