You Can Watch the Magical Christmas Tree Raising at Biltmore Estate From Home This Year
During the holiday season, Biltmore—the Asheville, North Carolina, mansion built by George Vanderbilt in 1895—transforms into a real-life winter wonderland with thousands of lights, ornaments, and festive Christmas decorations on display. Well, if you can't make the trip to America's largest home in the Blue Ridge Mountains this year, you can still experience one of the historic mansion's most cherished holiday traditions: the annual Christmas tree raising event.
Amid the coronavirus pandemic this year, Biltmore's tree raising event will be virtual and free to watch from the comfort of your home. The virtual tree raising ceremony will give you a behind-the-scenes look at how the Banquet Hall’s 35-foot-tall Fraser fir is installed and decked out in gorgeous, festive decorations. You'll get to watch how Biltmore's massive seasonal centerpiece comes to life, hear stories from the people who make it happen, and learn about the months-long planning and preparation of the event. And this year's tree raising ceremony will be even more special because Christmas Eve marks the 125th anniversary of George Vanderbilt inviting family and friends to Biltmore for the first time.
