New water plant to serve Pokok Sena district to be ready by year end

ALOR STAR: The new Pokok Sena Water Treatment Plant at Sungai Santap near here will help solve the district’s water issues and is expected to be operational by the end of this this year.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said the RM54million project is more than 60 per cent complete and could be up and running by November.

He said the treatment plant will be able to process up to 30 million litres of water per day for consumers in Pokok Sena and also some parts of Pendang and Padang Terap.

“Work is being carried out to fix a 7km long pipe from the treatment plant to the Pokok Sena reservoir. Once completed, it can benefit some 13,000 account holders in the area,” he told reporters after visiting the treatment plant here today.

Also present was the Syarikat Air Darul Aman (Sada) Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Abd Ghani @ Zulkifli Zainuddin.

On a different note, Bashah said the state government has identified about 40.4 hectares of land in Pokok Sena for the 1Malaysia People’s Housing Programme.

He said a total of 1,100 units of single-storey and double-storey houses would be built at the location and that the project was expected to be carried out next year.
