Wawrinka made to work in Marseille

Switzerland's Stan Wawrinka returns the ball to Ukraine's Sergiy Stakhovsky during their second round tennis match at the ATP Marseille Open 13 in Marseille on February 17, 2016

French Open champion Stan Wawrinka was made to work for it but eventually squeezed into the Marseille Open quarter-finals with a 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (10-8) win over Sergiy Stakhovsky on Wednesday. The top seed could hardly have been expecting such a tough second round test from his Ukrainian opponent, who is ranked 81st in the world. It was only the second meeting between the pair and went better for the world number four than their first, in which he was eliminated from the US Open first round in four sets in 2012.
