Wayne Rooney defends decision to withdraw from England duty with pictures of nasty head gash

Wayne Rooney suffered a nasty head wound during a Manchester United training session that kept him out of their loss to Liverpool last weekend. With Rooney staying away from the cameras and David Moyes saying the injury would keep him out of both of England's upcoming World Cup qualifiers, people started to wonder how bad it could be.

England teammate Theo Walcott added to the mystery by saying, "It's not very nice to see. It's like something out of a horror film." And a day later, to quiet anyone who still believed that he was using a little paper cut to take a few days off, Rooney posted photos of the injury on Facebook. And it looks like Jack Nicholson caught him square in the forehead with an axe...

Rooney posted a second photo that looks like the camera could fit inside the gash, but no one needs to see that.
