Some ways to help Nepal

A story by Our Better World - telling stories of good to inspire action.

Many of our friends have stepped up to contribute to Nepal in some way, following the deadly 25 April earthquake.

If you've been looking for a way to help survivors in Nepal, here are some people we know whom you can get behind:

Nusantara Development Initiatives (NDI)
NDI is raising funds to get solar lamps to Nepal, targeting hospitals and shelters for displaced people.

Each lamp, which provides eight hours of light after a one-day charge under the sun, can help a family of four.

The price for each lamp is S$16.50 and includes delivery within Kathmandu.

You can contribute any amount. NDI will consolidate the contributions and purchase the lamps. It will also cover any additional administration costs. NDI will announce the delivery status of lamps weekly on its Facebook page.

How to help:
Sponsor a lamp or more through a bank transfer to:
Nusantara Development Initiatives Ltd
DBS Bank Current Account No: 0489033312
Bank Code: 7171 (DBS Current)

Questions may be directed to NDI’s executive director, Fairoz, at fairoz.ahmad@gmail.com or visit http://ndi.sg/.

Billionbricks is working with Makesense to send at least 100 four-person shelters to Nepal.

If more funds are raised, more shelters can be sent along with longer term rebuilding efforts in Nepal.

Chandra Ban earthquake fund
Camila and Luca are long-time residents of Nepal who run a guesthouse where they regularly host aid workers and provide them a place to decompress.

They’ve started a fund as a “direct and personal form of aid” to help staff and their families who have been affected by the quake, many of them losing their homes in the village of Taulung, Budhanilkantha, on the outskirts of Kathmandu.
