Wee chides Tun M for claiming MCA demanded DPM post

KUALA LUMPUR: Former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad needs to check his facts and be well-informed before making any allegations against MCA, said the party’s deputy president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong.

Wee was commenting on Mahathir’ latest u-turn remark, where the latter had claimed that MCA had demanded for the deputy prime minister’s post after earlier saying that it was DAP who requested for the post.

Speaking to the New Straits Times, Wee explained that it was impossible for MCA to make such request as the party suffered huge loss in the 2008 general election.

“Just imagine, in 2008 MCA suffered loss. We used to have 31 seats and now we only have 15 seats. “It was like a tsunami for us, so how can we ask for the deputy prime minister’s post?” he said.

Refuting Mahathir’s allegation, Wee explained that MCA leaders were simply pitching ideas when the subject of the deputy prime minister’s post arose.

“All leaders can pitch ideas. Anyone can throw ideas that they like. We never made any request.

“For this type of request, one needs to hold a formal negotiation between all parties. Under these circumstances, MCA as a party did no such thing,” Wee added.
