Weekend guide (19-21 January): World Snack Fair, Harry Potter and the Chambers of Secret in Concert

Whether you are into Harry Potter, yummy snacks, or local contemporary art served up with a good cocktail, this weekend has something in store for you.

From the World Snack Fair 2018 to Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in Concert, there are plenty of fun opportunities to take a mid-month break and enjoy yourself with family and friends.

Who doesn’t love snacking, especially in this cold weather? The largest world snack fair is coming to our shores this weekend. There will be 100 brands of snacks available for purchase, spread over five different snack zones – Japan, Korea, Europe, Australia and Asia. Visitors will also be treated to a free tasting of Doraemon Yogurt at the front entrance of the convention centre.

Is Anyone Home?

Organised by Superhero Me, a ground-up inclusive art movement involving children from less-privileged backgrounds and special needs communities, this exhibition features five installations by children. Supported by a team of artists and facilitators, visitors can discover children’s stories and art works that have been playfully weaved into a curious and delightful space.

As part of this exhibition, there will be and artist talk and a series of inclusive workshops for children of all abilities.

Accelerated Intimacy Art x Bar

If you enjoy contemporary art and perhaps a few drinks, this exhibition at local art gallery Yeo Workshop at Gillman Barracks is right up your alley. There will be an operating bar within the exhibition for the duration of the exhibition, courtesy of EC Proof & Co. The solo exhibition itself by artist Sarah Choo Jing comprises multiple video channels interspersed and juxtaposed alongside photographic prints and objects exploring human relationships.

The fun seemingly never ends for Harry Potter fans. If you enjoyed the Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in Concert, you can look forward to Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in Concert.

The audience watches the second chapter of the film series while the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra will be performing music from the entire film, live to picture, creating a memorable and magical experience for everyone.
