SINGAPORE — Here is a round-up of sports events and developments in Singapore in the past week (21 to 27 November):

Borussia Dortmund sweep past Lion City Sailors in friendly

German giants Borussia Dortmund swept to a 7-2 win over Singapore Premier League club Lion City Sailors in a friendly in front of over 6,000 fans at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Thursday (24 November).

Goals from Donyell Malen (34th and 45th minutes), Samuel Bamba (66th, 73rd), Julian Rijkhoff (85th), Justin Njinmah (87th) and an own goal from Amirul Adli (32nd) gave Dortmund the victory to start off their Asia tour amid the World Cup break.

Gabriel Quak (68th) and Faris Ramli (91st) scored the Sailors' consolation goals. Dortmund will next head to Malaysia and Vietnam for friendlies during their tour.

Peter Gilchrist loses to world No.1 in World Billiards Championship final

Singapore's Peter Gilchrist missed out on his fifth World Billiards Championship (long format) title, as he lost 1,776-1,092 to English world No. 1 David Causier at the Ronnie O’Sullivan Snooker Academy at The Grandstand in Bukit Timah on Thursday (24 November).

The 54-year-old Gilchrist had won the Singapore Open Billiards Championship two Sundays ago, but missed key shots to allow 49-year-old Causier to claim his third world title and the winner’s cheque of £5,000 (S$8,100).

"David played fantastic, a lot better than I did. I just lost concentration in the second session," Gilchrist told The Straits Times following his defeat.

'Football With A Heart' raises record $1,051,000

The seventh edition of "Football With A Heart" (FWAH) has raised a record-breaking $1,051,000 on its return after a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Held at Our Tampines Hub on Saturday (26 November), the executive football fundraiser saw over 40 corporate teams fielding their employees in the five-aside tournament alongside the likes of ex-national players Noor Ali and Lim Tong Hai, as well as MPs Tan Chuan-Jin and Pritam Singh.

Co-organised by Singapore Pools, Football Association of Singapore and Sport Singapore, FWAH raised funds for beneficiaries including GreenSG Collab, Filos Community Services and Heartware Network.

Bowler Yokoyama earns 5 golds at SEA Deaf Games

Singapore athletes clinched six golds and two bronzes in bowling at the inaugural SEA Deaf Games 2022 in Kuala Lumpur.

Adelia Naomi Yokoyama was the top athlete for the city-state, winning five golds from the women’s singles, doubles, trios, masters and overall events.

Team Singapore were represented by 12 athletes competing in athletics, badminton and bowling.

Alice Shi comes in 2nd at show-jumping competition at Princess's Cup

Equestrian athlete Alice Shi came in second in the individual category of the international junior show jumping competition during the Princess’s Cup 2022 in Bangkok on Monday (21 November).

She rode on her borrowed horse, Caracci M, and finished behind winner Waruesa Pavasantanon from Thailand. Taiwan's Chen Hung-shen came in third.

Alice is one of the three young riders from Singapore Turf Club Riding Centre (STCRC) who were selected by the Equestrian Federation of Singapore (EFS) to represent Singapore at the competition, alongside Tara Nur Ibrahim and Rachael Leong.

The competition saw 30 young riders aged between 14 and 18 participating. This year’s event marked the first time where EFS has selected all three riders from STCRC.
