SINGAPORE — Here is a round-up of sports events and developments in the past week (23 to 29 March):

Sports Hub venues, activities suspended

The Singapore Sports Hub has implemented additional precautionary measures across its various venues, to ensure a safe environment for the public to continuously keep fit and stay healthy even during the COVID-19 pandemic period.

These measures include limiting all group activities to 10 persons or fewer, regulating capacity within the facilities to allow social distancing as well as channeling visitors at selected facilities to a single-entry point for thermal scanning. There will also be increased frequency of cleaning the venues.

Patrons who are on Leave of Absence or Stay-Home Notice, or have recent travel history to countries or regions placed under travel restrictions by the Singapore government, will not be permitted to enter the venue. Those with a temperature of 38°C and above, or show respiratory symptoms, will also not be permitted to enter and will be advised to seek medical attention promptly.

Several venues and activities will be closed or suspended till 30 April. Patrons are reminded to practise safe social distancing measures while they are on site. Detailed added measures at the various venues are as follows:

  • OCBC Arena: Sports Hub Multi-Activity Camp, Sports Hub Basketball Academy and Sports Hub Netball Academy are suspended from 27 March (Friday). Court activities are limited to 10 persons or fewer per court.

  • Sports Hub Gym@OCBC Arena: Limited capacity to allow adequate space for social distancing. All gym equipment are spaced out at least 1 metre apart

  • Sports Hub Fitness Studio@OCBC Arena: All fitness studio classes are suspended from 27th March.

  • OCBC Aquatic Centre: All swimming classes are suspended from 27 March. All aqua fitness classes are limited to nine persons or fewer. Limited capacity for the competition pool and the training pool to allow adequate space for social distancing.

  • Splash-N-Surf: Kids water playground is closed from 27 March. Stingray is limited to nine persons or fewer. Lazy River is limited to 10 persons or fewer.

  • Water Sports Centre: Dragonboat rentals are suspended from 27 March. Kayak and canoe rentals are limited to two persons or fewer. All water sports courses are limited to nine persons or fewer.

  • Singapore Sports Museum: Limited capacity to allow adequate space for social distancing

  • Community sports facilities at Sports Hub: Hard courts are limited to 10 persons or fewer per court. Beach volleyball courts are limited to five persons or fewer per court. Giant Chess is limited to four persons or fewer. Lawn Bowl is limited to two persons or fewer per lane. Kids playground is limited to 10 persons or fewer. Exercise and fitness stations are limited to 10 persons or fewer. Skate park is limited to 10 persons or fewer.

  • Climb Central and Shimano Cycling World: All programmes are suspended from 27 March. Limited capacity to allow adequate space for social distancing.

  • Others: All venue tours and National Stadium viewings are suspended from 27 March.

Swimming c’ships postponed, Diving Grand Prix cancelled

The Singapore Swimming Association has announced that the Singapore National Swimming Championships from 14 to 17 May, as well as the Singapore National Age Group Swimming Championships (5 to 7 June for juniors, 23 to 28 June for seniors), will be postponed until further notice.

In addition, the FINA Diving Grand Prix Singapore, scheduled for 29 to 31 May, has been cancelled.

These changes come in light of the COVID-19 pandemic situation, the guidelines and advisories set forth by the Ministry of Health and Sport Singapore, and the postponement of the Tokyo Olympics to 2021.
