In the digital age, it’s not hard to track down answers to our beauty woes with bloggers and professional make-up artists galore regularly sharing their wizardry on the Internet.

But even the supposedly ‘easy-to-follow’ YouTube tutorials can leave us with clown-worthy contouring and too-shiny highlight. So you can imagine our delight after finally discovering a make-up trend we can actually master.

The minimalist aesthetic is achieved by swiping a brightly-hued eyeliner across the crease of your eyelid and erm, that’s it. Yes, there’s no need for mascara, lipstick or shadow – with the aim of the look to draw attention to your new gram-worthy eyes.

The fashion industry was first introduced to the floating make-up trend at the Michael Kors SS13 show, as models took to the runway with asymmetric slashes of zesty yellow and ocean blue eyeliner across their lids.

Solange Knowles was one of the first A-listers to give lift-off to the trend wearing a linear swipe of white eyeliner on the red carpet back in 2016.

Fast-forward two years and the experimentative look has won over the likes on Instagram thanks to it’s surprisingly simple (yet highly effective) design.

The best part? There are no rules for beauty junkies with the option to draw the eyeliner directly onto the crease of your eyelid, below it or close to your lashes.

In a trickle-down effect, Kendall Jenner recently sported the look. For the People’s Choice Awards back in November 11, the super wore lime-hued eyeliner slashed across the top and bottom of her lids in a haphazard manner.

Those hoping to imitate the look in their bedroom mirror will be pleased to learn that beauty giant Glossier has since introduced Instagram users to the trend.

The only rules to follow? Make sure to invest in a neon-hued eyeliner and don’t spend too long on it – the less asymmetric the better.
