Here’s what went down at Singapore Indesign 2016

Singapore Indesign 2016 is over, and we had a blast! The one-day design adventure took place on 8 October 2016 and we were swept up in the fun and excitement. If you were there, we hope you saw exciting displays of creativity, brand new products and thought-provoking talks and seminars.

In case you missed it, here are some of our highlights.

With two design routes and nine stops along the way, we started the day early and hopped on the free shuttle buses. Travelling was convenient and we made it to every location with plenty of time to spare! We also picked up the free tote bags and deliciously bright lanyard.

This was one of our fave design installation. Laminate specialist EDL teamed up with ipli Architects to create this eye-catching design right outside the Space Furniture showroom. A mix of white and mirror-like laminates are interconnected, giving the building facade a cool distortion effect.

There was a lot happening within the Space showroom too, including a culinary demonstration with the Miele kitchen. Seeing the products in action was an eye-opener, and there were even tasting portions up for grabs.

Over at the OM showroom at Liang Court, a series of designer talks kept us captivated. We listened in on a couple of special guests, including Sean Dix and Kelvin Ng, who spoke about designing furniture for commercial spaces. There was also a sneak preview on new pieces of furniture that we think will look great in homes that are going for the cosy cafe look.

Every year, Singapore Indesign introduces new products and designs to the Singapore market, and SGID16 didn’t fail to deliver. We saw a lot of exciting pieces, including these colourful Panthella Mini table lamps. We want one of every colour!

At the Scandinavian Business Seating showroom, we climbed up the steps, following the intricate wood panelling and ended up in a Nordic Wonderland. Inspired by the Northern Lights, this design installation was truly hypnotic!

There were five Design Conversations throughout the day, each with a diverse panel of speakers from the design industry. These casual talks brought in large numbers of people and were one of the biggest draws of the day.

Two of the Design Conversations were held at the Curated Space. If you managed to get a seat at the lounge, then you were actually sitting on furniture pieces from Commune! They were a big hit, with many guests falling in love with the sturdy and versatile pieces.

The Curated Space also became the spot to stop for a breather. Eva Solo set up a quaint cafe with coffee from Artistry and tea from Ette Tea Company. There was also free beer from Stella Artois for those who wanted to start their weekend early!

One of the biggest surprises came from FORM, who created bespoke cocktails for Lookbox Living, Cubes and Indesignlive! The miniature bottles contain different concoctions in brilliant colours, and are the perfect souvenir for the day.

Sunbrella’s design installation at the Curated Space was a showstopper. The towering piece looked like an explosion of colours that invited guests to walk through and experience the design.

Another eye-catching highlight came in the form of Greenlam’s design installation. This collaboration with DP Architects features interlocking laminates that combine together to create multiple shapes and forms. We enjoyed walking through the installation and exploring the quiet sanctuaries of the laminate tower.

Capping off the fantastic day was an equally fantastic evening. Special guests were invited to the VIP After-Party, held at the Vault at InterContinental Hotel. A free flow of food and drinks kept the atmosphere fun and lively, with plenty of opportunities to run shoulders with industry greats.

This year’s Singapore Indesign was a huge success and the Lookbox team is glad to be a part of the annual event! Check out our sister site, indesignlive.sg to see more images from the event.

Till next year!
