KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 10 — Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will announce tomorrow the seat he plans to contest in to pave his return to Parliament, Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said today.
The PKR secretary-general said Anwar, who is his party’s president-elect, is currently in Hong Kong but is scheduled to return tomorrow, and will reveal the parliamentary seat he plans to stand in then, ending weeks of speculation.
“Originally there were three potential seats, but yesterday it became two, he contacted me yesterday to give me the picture and I am tasked to make preparations, perhaps in Hong Kong he will decide on one of the two,” Saifuddin who is also domestic trade and consumerism minister was quoted by national news wire Bernama telling reporters in Alor Setar today.
Saifuddin said the seat will be the safest for Anwar, adding that it will not be in any of the northern states in the peninsula as reported previously.
He also dismissed allegations of nepotism in Parliament if Anwar wins a by-election as planned, saying the latter’s wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and daughter Nurul Izzah Anwar were democratically elected in the 14th general election.
Dr Wan Azizah is Pandan MP and deputy prime minister, while Nurul Izzah is Permatang Pauh MP.
