Fizz fans will soon be able to get their hands on a new pink variant, as rosé Prosecco hits UK shores for the first time.

Launching just in time for the festive season, Sainsbury’s and Aldi will be the first supermarkets in the UK to sell their own-branded bottles of rosé Prosecco.

Aldi’s version will be available online from Monday 2 November and will cost £6.49 a bottle.

The pink fizz was approved by the Italian government earlier this year after ‘years of discussion’. Prior to this, the country’s Prosecco DOC Consortium strictly forbade pink-hued Prosecco wines.

While there have been variants of the pink fizz for a while, this will be the first certified real deal - which meets Italy’s highest standards for Prosecco.

All wines produced with a Prosecco label must be made in the Trieste and Treviso regions of northern Italy.

Until now, rules stated that Prosecco must be made from at least 85% Glera (a white grape variant), which has meant that the drink has always been white.

However, now vineyards are able to use a mix of Glera and Pinot Noir grapes to give the liquid a lovely pink hue.

As well as supermarkets stocking their own brand bottles of the fizz, a company aptly named Pink Prosecco is also bringing it to Britain.

The Daily Mail reports the brand has had so much interest in their Prosecco that it has had to create a waiting list - and its Facebook page currently has over 370.000 ‘likes’.

The perfect festive drink? We think so.
