Wild Rift Horizon Cup: Team Secret bounce back with sweeps over eBRO, Queso

After a rough start in the League of Legends: Wild Rift Horizon Cup 2021 in Singapore, Filipino squad Team Secret bounced back with two huge sweeps over South America's eBRO Gaming and Europe's Team Queso to get in the running for a spot in the tournament's Knockout Stage.

Secret opened their Horizon Cup campaign against China's ThunderTalk Gaming, who were fielding multiple subs due to visa issues. Despite being favored to win against a depleted opponent, Secret fell victim to a 2-1 reverse sweep from ThunderTalk.

In the second day of the Group Stage on Sunday (14 November), Secret were able to right the ship with a dominant 2-0 sweep over eBRO Gaming. The Filipinos cruised to easy wins in just under 15 minutes in both games behind strong performances from support player James "Hamezz" Santos and midlaner Heri "Tatsurii" Garcia.

Secret continued its resurgence on Monday (15 November) by scoring another 2-0 sweep over Spain's Team Queso in back-to-back 18-minute games. Tatsurii had another strong performance to fuel his team's win in game one while Eleazar "Azar" Salle took the spotlight to secure the sweep in game two.

With their wins over eBRO and Queso, Secret are in possession of second place in Group B with a 2-1 record heading into the penultimate day of the Group Stage. The Filipino squad will need to win one last match against Japan's Sengoku Gaming to lock up their spot in the Knockout Stage.

While Secret were able to recover from its rough start in game one, Southeast Asia's other representative in the Horizon Cup, Vietnam's SBTC Esports, are in danger of an early elimination after losing both of their matches thus far against China's Da Kun Gaming and South Korea's KT Rolster.

The Group Stage matches will continue until 17 November, with the teams playing in a single round-robin of best-of-three matches.

The top three teams in each group will advance to the knockout stage while the bottom two will be eliminated.

The Knockout stage will run from 19 to 21 November. The best team in each group will automatically proceed to the semi-finals of the Knockout Stage, while the second and third-placed teams in each group will begin the main event in the first round. The Knockout Stage matchups will all be best-of-five except for the Grand Finals, which will be a best-of-seven series.
