KUALA LUMPUR: A tit-for-tat move by North Korea to expel Malaysia’s ambassador after its envoy left for Pyongyang was described as a normal reciprocal action in diplomacy.

Foreign Ministry Bilateral Affairs deputy secretary general Raja Nushirwan Zainal Abidin said this in confirming the Malaysian envoy, Mohamad Nizan Mohamad has been declared persona non grata by North Korea.

“This reciprocal action is normal in diplomacy, It should be noted that the Malaysian ambassador has been recalled by the government.

“He is presently in Malaysia and has been here for sometime now,” he said.

The ambassador was recalled on Feb 22 by Wisma Putra for consultations following the murder of Kim Jong-nam, the exiled half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, on Feb 13.
