A woman has filed a police report to admit that she was the driver in an alleged hit-and-run accident involving a dog, the Animal Lovers League (ALL) said on Wednesday (26 October).
But ALL, whose original post on Facebook about the incident on Sunday at Pasir Ris Farmway 3 triggered a furore on social media, said in an updated post it has been informed that the driver is not an agent or employee of Huttons Asia.
A number of Facebook users have identified the driver as a property agent from Huttons.
According to the original post by ALL, the female driver who allegedly ran over the dog Sayang had uttered an expletive to an ALL volunteer and said that “it’s just a dog” before driving off.
ALL said in its updated post that another woman, who is the owner of the vehicle, filed a separate police report to state that she was not the driver at the time of the incident.
It is unclear how the two women who had filed the reports are related to each other.
Both ALL and Huttons confirmed that the two sides met on Wednesday to discuss the incident.
“Huttons’ management met with Animal Lovers League today, and both parties have yet to conclusively identify the driver of vehicle at the material time as the key witness was not available,” Huttons said in a Facebook post.
Huttons also said that two police reports have been filed, adding that if an agent is found to be the driver involved, it will take the “necessary punitive measures”.
“As Corporate Citizen, Huttons Asia would like to stand firm that we do not condone such actions against Animals as this is not in-line with our corporate values.”
The Straits Times reported on Tuesday that Sayang has bloodstains around his mouth.
Sayang was traumatised because of the accident and has not been eating, ALL co-founder Cathy Strong said, according to the report. The dog will be on a drip until it resumes eating, she added.
The police said on Monday that a report about the incident has been lodged and investigations are ongoing.
